Beverly Agnes Grossman was 74 years when she passed away peacefully surrounded by her family and the Lord on Thursday evening, February 19, 2015 at her Prior Lake home.

The family will greet guests on Tuesday, February 24 from 4-8 pm and on Wednesday, February 25 from 9-10 am, all at Ballard-Sunder Funeral & Cremation, 4565 Pleasant Street SE, Prior Lake, MN. The Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday at 11 am, at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church 4500 220th Street East, Prior Lake, MN. Father Orlando Tatel will preside. Pall bearers will be her grandsons, Jeremy Grossman, Scott Luce, Steve Grossman, Cole Buss, Dan Erickson and Adam Ryks. Bev will be laid to rest at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Prior Lake, MN. Memorials are preferred and will be distributed in Bev’s memory.

Bev was born into a loving home to parents Lawrence and Ludwina Scheffler on September 24 1940, in New Prague, MN. She was the second of six children. Bev lived in St Joe’s (Jordan) along with her siblings Ronnie, Kenny, Elaine, Larry and Wayne. She has fond memories growing up with her siblings, but it was with her brother Kenny that Bev found herself being in mischief the most.

It was working in the kitchen at Queen of Peace Hospital, where Bev mastered her skills of cooking and baking. Walking back and forth to work every day she met the love of her life and best friend Ron Grossman. They started their life together on April 26, 1958, exchanging wedding vows at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. In November of that year, Bev’s life was truly saddened by the passing of her mother from lung cancer. Bev and Ron raised 5 wonderful children together, Pam, Deb, Brian, Jeff, Troy and 11 grandchildren Nichole, Jeremy, Scott, Corey, Kaula, Steve, Cole, Kendra, Shannon, Taylor, Kaitlynn and 3 great-grandchildren, Kori, Luke and Cal.

Most of Bev’s life was being a devoted and loving wife and mother. After her children grew up, Bev spent 25 years at Sears where she developed lifelong friendships. Upon retiring, she focused on her family which included being a grandma and great grandma. Bev relished and loved each one deeply and would do anything for them.

Bev spent countless hours gardening, baking and being an active member of St. Catherine’s church, CCW and TOPS. She and Ron started beautiful gardens by creating shapes with the garden hose in the yard. It quickly became the centerpiece of their property. Bev had a generous heart often baking pans of bars and cookies for church events and the Ronald McDonald House. She showed her love for people through baking, preparing what Ron would call blue ribbon meals for her family. Bev’s legacy will carry on with the flakiness of her pie crust. The family’s annual pie making day resulted in over 600 apple pies over the last 5 years. Devoted to her faith, Bev prayed the rosary while walking on the treadmill and walks outside. In the last several months, the CCW sisters started a weekly Tuesday rosary prayer time with Bev via telephone.

Generous, empathetic and kind, Bev did not pass judgment, she was accepting of everyone. What she sowed, she reaped. Bev embraced the simple pleasures and joys in life and never imposed herself on anyone. She was content and happy to sit and listen. Bev was curious about new things and willing to try anything. She was diagnosed with lung cancer in May 2013. Bev battled cancer with the same peaceful grace that she lived the rest of her life. She never complained.

To celebrate and honor Bev’s life and mourn her death is her loving husband and best friend, Ron; daughter, Pam (Susumu) Akatsu and their daughter, Kaitlynn Akatsu; daughter, Deb (Joe) Buss and their children, Scott Luce, Cole Buss, Kendra Buss; son, Brian (Jody) Grossman and their children, Nichole (Dan) Erickson and their children, Kori and Luke Erickson, Jeremy Grossman; son, Jeff Grossman and his daughter, Taylor Furlano; son, Troy (Carrie) Grossman and their children, Kaula (Adam) Ryks and their son, Callan Ryks, Steve Grossman, Shannon Grossman; siblings, Ronnie (Joan) Scheffler, Kenny (Marilyn) Scheffler, Elaine (Danny) Miller, Larry Scheffler, Wayne (Cindy) Scheffler; many, nieces, nephews, other relatives and devoted friends.

There to welcome Bev home in heaven is her grandson, Corey Grossman; parents, Ludwina and Lawrence (Irene) Scheffler.

Butch and Family
I found out on Tuesday. I would have liked to attend Bevs funeral, but I am away.
I was blessed to be part of your family for a short time. But even though, I am not anymore. I still think about what I wonderful family you have, and how much fun it was to visit with you all.
Bev was one of the sweetest and loving persons I have ever met.

Condolence from Laura Martinson ( Dehnbostel ) on March 22nd, 2017 1:42 pm

I am so sorry for your loss! I apologize not getting to Bev’s family sooner, as I did not know she had passed!
Couldn’t imagine I’d be writing this…

I was very lucky to have known Bev! We had spent many wonderful walks together ! I never felt ‘alone’ for the many years, I had lived in my great little Ranch home on Balsa Ave.
Bev’s beautiful garden was a place of ‘Zen’ !
She always put others first. Always had an open heart and open ear! She was in many ways a Mom and a best friend ! Starting a new life and business….I wanted to share this with Bev.
Always her gorgeous smile! Such a beautiful woman in every way! She will never be forgotten!

My deepest sympathy to Ron and all of your wonderful family!
