Elizabeth “Betty” Eaton, age 88 of Shakopee, entered eternal life on March 9, 2019 while surrounded by her children. Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at 11AM with a visitation starting at 9:30AM all at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Brooklyn Center. Betty will be laid to rest at Gethsemane Catholic Cemetery, New Hope. Father Donald Willard will preside.

On January 23, 1931 Betty was born in Minneapolis to parents Harry and Rose Zellmer. She was the second of eight children. Following her graduation from the Minneapolis Vocational High School, Betty began working as a bank teller. Later in life, Betty worked as the office administrator for Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Golden Valley.

While on a blind date, Betty met Harold Eaton. They were married on May 3, 1952 at St. Bridget Catholic Church in Minneapolis. This union blessed Betty with the greatest gift—a loving family. Betty was a proud wife, mother and grandmother. She simply enjoyed being with family. They took road trips across America and spent countless hours at the family cabin near Backus, MN. When Betty drove the grandchildren to the cabin, they always joked she could make the three-hour drive in half that time.

In her free time, Betty read mystery and romance novels. Often, she completed a book a day! She also enjoyed watching movies, a love that started early in life when she was a teenager working at a movie theater. Most recently, she found great enjoyment watching Hallmark movies with her children.

Betty was an avid supporter of Harold’s participation in the Happy Wanderers, the German music band. The entire family attended Oktoberfests and church festivals throughout the Midwest. Betty and Harold even traveled to Germany with the band. When Harold was 50 years old, he died due to a brain tumor. While a difficult time, Betty’s determination helped her, and the family persevere. She was a gentle, yet independent woman whose generosity and love will always be remembered.

Betty is survived by her children, Joy (Al) Wallace, Rick (Katie) Eaton, Pam (Roy) Kenner; grandchildren, Nikki (Steve) Lundeen, Kevin (Melissa) Hanson, Greg (Melinda) Hanson, Scott (Sherry) Eaton, Brian (Wendy) Eaton, Kyle Eaton, Angela (Cody) Gulbranson, Lindsey (Tanner) Nygaard; great-grandchildren, Allison and Leah Lundeen, Casey, Taylor, and Alex Witt, Sawyer Hanson, Katarina, Hannah, Jack, Isabelle, Brayden and Nolan Eaton, Libby and Hunter Gulbranson, Chloe and Tayla Nygaard; siblings, Jim (Ann) Zellmer, Marydell Zane, Tom (Jackie) Zellmer, Theresa (Dick) Clendenin.

Betty is greeted in Heaven by her husband, Harold; parents and siblings, Jack (Davey) Zellmer, Pat (Don) Lind, Phil (Mary) Zellmer.

Condolences for the family of “Betty Eaton”

Condolence from Terry Foy on March 11th, 2019 9:07 pm

“She was a gentle, yet independent woman whose generosity and love will always be remembered.” Whoever wrote this part, described her so well.
She was always there for me growing up. More like a 2nd mom, than an aunt. I remember going to her place, when she broke her wrist, and wrapping Christmas presents for her. I have many good memories of her. I’m happy she is at peace.

Condolence from Bruce R. on March 12th, 2019 5:32 pm

My heartfelt sympathies go out to the family and friends. May you find some comfort in the promise found in Revelation 21: 3-4 and 1 Thessalonians 4:14. Knowing that there is an opportunity to be reunited with loved ones.
