On Sunday, August 21, 1921 in St. Cloud, Bettie was born to parents Lee and Mathilda (Wimmer) Peffer.

She married Bob Mertz on Friday, November 5, 1943 at the St. Cloud Cathedral in St. Cloud, MN. They were blessed with five children, Dave, Bobbie, Don, Laurie and Cyndy.

A resident of Shakopee, Bettie, age 90, passed away the morning of Tuesday, May 29, 2012. She passed away unexpectedly at St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Shakopee, MN.

Forever loved, Bettie will be deeply missed by her children, Dave (Mary ) Mertz of Casper, WY, Bobbie (John) Arvold of Eden Prairie, Don (Mary Ann) Mertz of Prior Lake, Laurie (Gary) Blanchard of Bloomington, Cyndy Mertz of Eden Prairie; grandchildren, Gina (Patrick) Carpenter, Brandy (Dana) Kauffman, Michael (Maddy) Arvold, Katie (CJ) Becker, Jannie (Ben) Thompson, Amy Anderson, Christian (Allison) Mertz, Kellie Blanchard, Jeff Blanchard, Chrissy (Kyle) Hartnet; 15 great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Anne Hagen of Flordia; brother, Bob (Anita) Peffer of Oregon; many other loving relatives and friends.

Bettie is preceded in death by her husband, Bob; two infant children; parents and sister, Dorothy (Bob) Lemmer.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, June 1 at 11 am, with visitation two hours prior all at the Church of St. Mark 350 Atwood Street, Shakopee. Bettie will be laid to rest next to her husband at the Shakopee Catholic Cemetery.

Memorials are preferred and will be distributed in Bettie’s memory by the family.
