WEB Ann Devitt

Annie (Monnens) Devitt, age 65, passed away peacefully on Tuesday evening, August 22, 2017, at Fairview Southdale Hospital, Edina, MN. She was a lifelong resident of Prior Lake, MN.

A time of gathering will be held on Wednesday, August 30 from 4-7 pm, at Ballard-Sunder Funeral and Cremation 4565 Pleasant Street SE, Prior Lake. There will also be a visitation starting at noon just prior to the Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, August 31 at 1 pm, at St. Michael Catholic Church 16311 Duluth Avenue SE, Prior Lake. Annie will be laid to rest at a private family interment at St. Michael Catholic Cemetery.

On December 3, 1951 in Shakopee, MN, Ann Marie was born to parents, Alvin and Joan (Rein) Monnens.

Being the oldest of five children, she always watched out for her younger siblings. Annie also proclaimed that she was dad’s favorite!!! Annie grew up in the Prior Lake community. In her teenage years, Annie worked at the nearby Dairy Queen and loved to listen to loud rock and roll music. She was also a bit on the wild side and liked to have fun. First attending St. Michael Catholic School through the eighth grade, she continued her education at the Prior Lake High School. Annie was a graduate of the class of 1969.

Working at various jobs through the years, Annie spent most of her career working for Spieker and Company in Prior Lake, as an insurance representative. But Annie’s main job was being a mother to her precious son, Andy. She was a strong and independent woman, who raised her son on her own. Annie truly took care of him. They didn’t have a whole lot, but they had good food, a roof over their head and love! Annie and Andy loved spending Sunday afternoons and holidays with family. Her siblings always remained a critical part of her life. In later years, Annie’s life was enriched with two special grandsons, Conor and Xander. She loved to spoil them with treats and gifts. Annie’s eyes would light up as they would greet her, for she adored them immensely.

Annie lived a very full, yet simple life. She enjoyed working in her vegetable gardens with Andy, a passion he enjoys to this day. Annie saved everything, in hopes it would be worth money someday! She enjoyed watching TV; especially Leave It To Beaver, TV Land, Nick at Night, ME TV, Antenna TV and all sorts of other programing. Annie felt the most at home relaxing with her electric blanket, watching TV and having a cold Busch Light, especially on Sunday evenings, as she would wind down from the weekend. She enjoyed wearing her red Car Quest jacket, which has seen many adventures through the years. Annie loved her Hostess Twinkie’s. She also loved going to the Canterbury Craft Shows and Renaissance Festival with her sister. A longtime member of the Prior Lake VFW Ladies Auxiliary, she loved socializing with everyone and attending all the VFW events.

Content with life, Annie didn’t need much. She was hardworking and an amazing mom and grandma, a dedicated daughter and sister and a fun-loving aunt. Family was always the most important.

Forever loved and missed by a devoted son, Andy (Erin) Devitt; grandsons, Conor and Xander; mother, Joan Monnens; siblings, Alan (Kathy) Monnens, Mary (Robert) Aldorfer, Steve (Danna) Monnens, Dave (Rachel) Monnens, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

There to welcome home in heaven is Annie’s father, Alvin Monnens.

What a beautiful well written tribute. I personally didn’t know Annie, but if she was anything like her siblings she must have been a quite fabulous lady. Enjoy your heavenly reward Annie, God Bless.

Annie will be missed by our two adorable grandsons, Conor and Xander, whose eyes would light up at the mention of Grandma Annie. I will be forever grateful that Andy joined our family and became an amazing partner to my daughter and fantastic daddy to his two boys. I know that Annie’s influence shaped this fine, good man. My sincere condolences to Annie’s siblings who have been a rock for Andy during this time–what a beautiful tribute to Annie that everyone has shared a part in wrapping around Andy as he grieves such a loss. It has been wonderful to hear about it from Erin. Peace to Annie as she passes on to her next great journey.

Annie was a very sweet, kind and honest person. Andy, you may not remember me, but you and your mom used to come to picnics and bonfires at our summer home on Prior Lake with Tom. You have my sincere sympathy for the loss of your wonderful mom.
