Condolence from Bret Oestreich on December 19th, 2015 10:55 pm

I am deeply saddened I have just recently learned of Coach Al Zarth’s death . All of us who spent any time on the ice with him under his wing as a hockey player loved and deaply respected him. I know Coach Zarth death will affect his family deaply, but his death will affect numerous Adults, since Coach Zarth mentored me and many other’s for many years, even after Bantams, Midgets and High School. I know that many of his past hockey players may have not stayed in close contact with him, but we have all lost something in our hearts. Coach Zarth was an incredible soft spoken tenacious, charismatic, respectful, father figure who was caring and truely loved to teach, compete and win in the game of hockey. I am so sorry for this loss in his family’s life and the many hockey families lives he has touched..

Coach Zarth’s integrity and his leadership inspired many people. I believe Coach impacted the lives of all of his players he coached, not only as a coach, but as a mentor and friend. I had not seen him for many years since seeing him in downtown Shakopee. I remember thinking that, aside from a few more gray hairs, he hadn’t really changed much. He still had that vibrant quiet personality and great smile. And he still had encouraging things to say to everyone. What a great man who was an inspiration to me on the ice but off the ice in my adult life! Thank you Coach!
You will be missed greatly.

My love, thoughts and prayers are with the Zarth family during this trying time.

Coach Zarth’s integrity and his leadership inspired many people. I believe Coach impacted the lives of all of his players he coached as well as the loyal parents. He was not only a Coach, but he was a mentor and had a unusually unique leadership style (no skate), a competitor and a friend. I had not seen him for many years since seeing him in downtown Shakopee. I remember thinking that, aside from a few more gray hairs, not wearing that baseball hat and not wearing those Sorel winter boots, he hadn’t really changed much. He still had that vibrant quiet personality, that unforgettable chulkle and a great smile. And he still had encouraging things to say to everyone. What a great man who was an inspiration to me in many ways to include my adult life! Thank you Coach, I was extremely fortunate to have had you in my life.
Coach Al Zarth will be missed greatly. Love you buddy!

My thoughts and prayers are with the Zarth Family.

Oh, dear ones, Allan is safely home this Christmas, but the holes in your hearts are very deep, I know. Christmas will always hold a special meaning for you now as it does for me. Iyla, I have marveled at your strength and love. Just think a high school romance lasted so beautifully and has created such a wonderful bond. I am especially thinking of you this morning and wishing that I were there to give you a big Christmas and healing hug. But I’m not; I’m here in Cambridge, knowing that our Amen to God’s will sometimes wavers but is always strong.

I still have Bob’s voice on my answering machine so I can still hear it!!!

Love to you, Iyla and dear ones.
