Lynn Renee Sefcovic, age, 64, of Mountain Iron, MN, passed away peacefully on July 14th, at English Rose Suites, in Edina, MN

A time of gathering will be held on Sunday, July 21, from 10 am-12 (noon), at Ballard-Sunder Funeral and Cremation 4565 Pleasant Street SE, Prior Lake, MN. A private family burial will be held at Union Cemetery, Maplewood, MN. In honor of Lynn, please make a donation to your local animal shelter.

On January 25, 1955, Lynn was born to parents Arnold Julius and Maxine Elizabeth (Trimbo) Hawkinson, in St. Paul, MN.

Lynn had an amazing career as a Register Nurse. After graduating from nursing school, she spent 35 years working at the Virginia Regional Medical Center going from Staff Nurse to Chief Nursing Officer. Also, during this time, she earned both a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Nursing, and completed the coursework toward a PhD. She found great enjoyment mentoring fellow colleagues and encouraging them to further their education. Lynn absolutely loved learning. She was a strong believer in education and was always reading articles and books on nursing research and management. She retired in 2012.

On January 15, 1977, in Hibbing, MN Lynn married David James Sefcovic. They were blessed with three daughters, Kristina, Rebecca, and Elizabeth. As a family, they packed up the pickup camper, in search of weekend adventures. Everyone had their special place to sleep, even the dog! Lynn loved supporting her daughters. She enjoyed being a girl scout leader and attending their school activities. In her spare time, Lynn enjoyed traveling, especially anywhere warm. She had a deep love of all animals, wildlife and domestic.

Lynn was a strong support of the community. She was a member of Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society of Nursing, Soroptimist International, Rotary International, Arrowhead Emergency Medical Services Association, and the Blandin Leadership Program. Lynn was honored to receive the Athena Award for outstanding leadership in the local community.

Forever missed and cherish by husband, David; daughters, Kristina (Keith) Nystrom, Rebecca (Shannon) Uglem, Elizabeth (William) Heublein; granddaughters, Lola Uglem, Ruby Uglem, Katelyn Nystrom, Kaylee Nystrom; brother, Marc Hawkinson; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

There to greet Lynn home in heaven are her parents, Arnold and Maxine Hawkinson; her father-in-law Met Sefcovic, and her favorite aunts, Esther Hawkinson and Ellen Seablom.

Words are inadequate to express feelings at a time like this. Dave, I am so sorry for the loss you and your family have experienced. Lynn was a wonderful coworker, mentor, friend and boss. I have missed her smile and her laugh. You will remain in my prayers in the days ahead.

Condolence from Janet Slovak on July 21st, 2019 2:06 pm

Prayer of St. Francis
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace,
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
Where there is sadness, joy;
O Divine Master, grant that I may not so
much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to
eternal life.
Dear Lord accept our beloved Lynn into you kingdom, Amen.
Always our unending love. Mom and Janet.

Oh Lynn, My dearest childhood friend. My heart was broken today when I discovered you were gone. I am so very sorry I didn’t get to reconnect with you before your time here was done. I will regret that for the rest of mine. You’ve been on my mind alot these last few months; now I know why. You will stay in my heart forever.

Condolence from Barb Farrell on August 22nd, 2019 1:17 pm

My deepest sympathy to Lynn’s family. I had the pleasure of working with her as a coworker in the Intensive Care Unit at the Virginia hospital and under her as my Director of Nursing. We also shared time together when we went back to school to obtain our BSN at Bemidji State. She was a wonderful friend and mentor and certainly touched my life. Hugs to all of you…rest in peace Lynn❤❤
