Anna Luedloff

Anna Marie Luedloff, age 94 of Jordan, MN  passed away on July 12, 2008 at St. Francis Regional Medical Center, Shakopee, MN

She was born May 29, 1914 at home in Louisville Township to John “Herman” Wendell from Sweden and Regina (Tvedt) Wendell  “Gina” from Norway.

Anna and her siblings attended a one-room country school named Dooleyville, in Louisville Township, about 3 miles from their home, until the 8th grade.

After Anna’s father died, Anna and her sister Florence took jobs in St. Paul on Summit Avenue as live-in maids, during the Depression Years, while their brother Donald and his wife Ann, her brother Fred and mother, Gina lived on the farm.

Anna met Edward Rudolph Luedloff her future husband, when he worked as a hired man for his sister, Martha Jabs, and her husband Rudolph on a neighboring Island farm. Ed and Anna were married on May 2, 1935 at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan by Pastor L. F. Brandes with her older sister, Alice Dueffert and her husband Walter as witnesses.  They enjoyed 55 years of marriage until 1991 when Ed died at the age of 81. After Ed could not drive the car any longer, Ann took Drivers Education and got her drivers license at the age of 70.

As newlyweds, Anna & Ed worked for Edmund Seifert on his farm. Ed as a hired man and Ann as housekeeper until they purchased the Wendell farm from her brother, Donald.  At one time, her sister Florence and her husband Albert Peterson and their children, plus Anna’s mother Regina, all lived and worked together in the small 3 bedroom house on the Wendell Island Farm.  The farm regularly flooded and access was by boat only including delivering the milk cans to shore and the children to Doolyville School.

Anna & Ed’s social activities were attending birthday parties of friends and relatives with their children in tow, shivaree parties on newlyweds, and the popular barn dances.

Anna was a hard working woman on the Carver and Jordan farms they owned, and a devoted mother.  Many times she babysat her grandchildren in the Jordan home on Mill Street, where they lived together for over 30 years until they moved into the Schule Haus apartment.

Anna worked for a season at the Gedney Pickle factory in Chaska, at Valley View Nursing Home in Jordan, as a housekeeper, and housecleaning in Edina.

Her hobbies were crocheting, reading and always “playing cards”.  She enjoyed traveling to Hawaii, Arizona, and Mexico with friends. Life was much more enjoyable when the 15 great grandchildren arrived, especially at holiday gatherings.

Anna was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan. She was baptized, confirmed, married and buried all from St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Anna is loved and forever missed by her children:  Doris & David Schmidt of Owatonna, Jane & Earl Nash of Jordan, Betty & James Weierke of Jordan; daughter-in-law, Karon Luedloff of Shakopee ,8 grandchildren Debra Ann Schmidt, Mark (Jeannie) Schmidt, Jeff (Beverly) Luedloff, Jill (Chad) Rippentrop, Leon (fiancée Beth Klingberg) Nash, Lisa (Patrick) Schatz, Janet (Paul) Robling, Steven (Deb) Weierke, 15 great grandchildren, sister-in-law, Marie Wendell of Hopkins, God-Children Yvonne Jabs & Lois Wenz, many nieces, nephews, and friends
