Donald Jay Abrams, M.D. Donald Abrams, M.D., 68, of Prior Lake, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2007 at his home after a courageous battle with myelofibrosis. Dr. Abrams was born Nov. 9, 1938 in Chapin, Iowa to Lloyd and Mabel (Andrews) Abrams. He married Kathleen (Chamberlin) Abrams March 13, 1976 and they were blessed with four children. He will be loved and forever missed by his loving wife, Kathe Abrams; children; Noelani Abrams of Minneapolis, Tiffany (Shane) Nichols of Cohasset, Mass., Ben (Molly) Abrams of New Brighton, David Jay Abrams of Minneapolis; grandchildren, Lily and Delaney Jay Nichols; brother, Lloyd Jr. (Marcia) Abrams of Mason City, Iowa; sister, Bonnie (Fred) MacDougal of Liscomb, Iowa; sister-in-law, Mary Abrams of Arizona; many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Michael Abrams M.D. A time of gathering for family and friends was Friday, Sept. 14, from 3-9 p.m. at Church of St. Michael, Prior Lake, with a 7 p.m. Remembrance Service. A visitation will also be held one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Mass of Christian Burial Saturday, Sept. 15, 11 a.m. at Church of St. Michael. Pallbearers are Tom Davidson, ****** Powell, Lee Sexe, Bob Goggins, Leo Le, Dr. Harry Alcorn II, Steve Schmid, Dr. Dan Trajano and Dave Fleming. Honorary pallbearers include the Monday AM & PM Golfers, Bridge Group, Executive Poker Committee, Dr. Thad Abrams, and Mary Young. Interment at Spring Lake Cemetery, Prior Lake. Donald was board certified in family medicine, a longtime dedicated physician of Park Nicollet Medical Center who was loved by his patients of the Shakopee and Prior Lake clinics. His passions were life, music and family. Donald was very involved with many community programs. He was a long time member of the Shakopee Rotary Club where he served as president, was awarded a Paul Harris fellowship and had 20 years of perfect attendance, member of the Prior Lake Yacht Club, Prior Lake Wind Jammers, and Chaska Community Band. Don was the former Chief of Staff at St. Francis Hospital, former president of the Shakopee Medical Center from 1973-1985, former South Region Practice Director of Park Nicollet Medical Clinic, former president of the Scott-Carver Medical Society and a member of the Clinical Faculty Department of Family Medicine at the U of M Medical School where he also mentored many new physicians. Donald loved a friendly competition of cards with family and friends. He enjoyed golfing, tennis, bridge, poker, downhill skiing, sailing, boating, and music. He served our country as a captain in the U.S. Army. A recent blood drive was held in Don’s name that involved over 300 participants, 200 volunteers, 98 who where first time blood donors which resulted in 141 pints of blood donated to help those in need. In lieu of flowers, the family would be most grateful for donations, which will be distributed by the family in Don’s name.
