David Burroughs, of Prior Lake, passed away unexpectedly on November 17, 2015 at the age of 52. He was a wonderful man with a kind heart. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Wednesday, November 25, 2015 from 2:00 – 5:00 PM at Ballard-Sunder Funeral & Cremation in Prior Lake with a time of reflection at 5:00 PM. There will also be a memorial service held on Saturday, November 28, 2015 at 11:00 AM with visitation one hour prior at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Caledonia.
It was a beautiful fall day in Caledonia on September 24, 1963 when Donald and Bonnie (Churchill) Burroughs celebrated the birth of their son, David Jerome Burroughs. Dave was the baby of the family and loved growing up in Caledonia with his older brother, Donald, Jr. Dave was involved in a lot of sports, and he was a very talented athlete. He was on the wrestling and football teams, but his favorite sport was golf. Dave was so strong that he would often damage his drivers when teeing off. His mother finally agreed that if he “parred the course” she would buy him a nice set of clubs that wouldn’t damage so easily. It wasn’t long before Dave earned that nice set of clubs.
After graduating from Caledonia High School, Dave attended vocational school in Austin, MN where he studied account management. He eventually earned his Associate’s Degree and began working for Ziegler, Inc. in Bloomington. Dave was also employed at RDO Equipment in Burnsville for a few years. Over the years he worked as a Caterpillar parts salesman. Dave had a strong work ethic and enjoyed the work he did.
In 1985, Dave attended a party back home in Caledonia where he was introduced to a woman named Marcia. Dave and Marcia hit it off instantly and their love quickly grew. They exchanged wedding vows on July 19, 1986. They lived in Rochester and the Twin Cities before settling in Prior Lake to raise their family. They were blessed with two wonderful children, Aaron and Stefany.
When the kids were young, the Burroughs family enjoyed biking, fishing and camping together as well as frequent visits to Valley Fair every summer. They enjoyed taking weekend trips to Hayward, Wisconsin where they enjoyed the outdoors together. Aaron and Stef introduced their dad to biking, and Dave quickly developed a passion for it. Throughout his life, Dave was a member of the Great Scott Cycling Club, completed many races, including the MS 150, and volunteered at the Great Scott Bike Ride in Prior Lake. He also enjoyed attending the Fat Tire Festival up north each year.
Throughout the years, Dave had many hobbies. He loved watching football games, golf tournaments and Nascar races on TV. Dave was a huge fan of country music, and loved seeing some of his favorite performers live in concert. Dave enjoyed traveling and took many memorable trips with his family, including multiple trips to Mexico.
Although Dave had many interests, friends and family were the most important things in his life. He went to nearly all of Aaron’s and Stef’s swim meets and practices, and he’d drive them to all of their events. No matter how busy Dave was, he always made time to go fishing with his daughter, and he’d still put the worms on the hook for her. Dave also loved spending time with his “extended daycare family.” Dave was like a second dad to many of the kids that Marcia provided daycare for over the years. He treasured the time he spent with them and loved them like they were part of his family.
Dave was a proud and humble man. He was a loving father and a loyal friend. Sadly, Dave’s life came to an end much too soon. He will be deeply missed and remembered always by his family, Marcia Burroughs; children, Aaron (Sara Sneer) Burroughs, Stefany (Dillon Waalen) Burroughs; father, Donald Burroughs; brother, Don, Jr. (Sharon) Burroughs; niece and nephew, Danielle (Matt) Root, Wes (Kelsey) Burroughs; John “Pickle” Zimmerman; special four-legged friends, Lucy and Kirby; other loving relatives and many dear friends. Dave is preceded by his mother, Bonnie Burroughs.
Ballard-Sunder Funeral & Cremation proudly serves the Burroughs family.

I met Dave when I was in sixth grade. He was always a nice guy unless you were wrestling him. I never did wrestle with him . I knew better he was such a powerful athlete, and stand up guy willing to help anyone. Truly sad to hear the news. Prayers and thoughts to all of you.

Marcia,
My sincerest condolences to You and Arron and Steff. So sad and tragic to loose someone dear to us. He no longer is in pain and now has peace. The good Lord has a plan the most difficult thing at times is to try to understand. I have found if you ask Him, He helps us to understand. If I can be of any help to you or your kids please let me know. God bless
