WEB Dan HAnson

Dan Hanson, age 26 of Ramsey, formerly of Prior Lake, passed away at his residence on August 6, 2017. The Hanson family will greet friends on Saturday, August 12, 2017 from 10-12noon with a funeral service beginning at 12noon all at Ballard-Sunder Funeral Home, 4565 Pleasant Street SE, Prior Lake. Reverend John P. Vaughn will preside. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
On February 10, 1991 at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale, Minnesota, parents Paul and Robin (Arnold) Hanson celebrated the birth of their son, Daniel Robert Hanson. He was the youngest of two children. As a young boy Dan was full of life—he was determined, intelligent, and outgoing. He loved to play soccer, read, fish, and spend time with his family.
Dan’s dad inspired him to pursue his interests, especially motocross. After the family moved to Prior Lake in 2001, Dan was given a 50CC dirt bike. This fueled his life long love for fixing anything with a motor. Following Dan’s graduation from Prior Lake High School, he attended Arizona State University for motorcycle mechanics. Unfortunately, it was at this time in Dan’s life that he was introduced to heroin. From then on, Dan struggled with addiction.
Despite this, Dan never lost touch with who he truly was. He was a hardworking, caring person who would always lend a helping hand to others. Without being asked, in the winter he would clear his neighbor’s driveways and sidewalks of snow.
After college, Dan returned to Minnesota to be near his family. He helped his family at their business, Black Jack Seal Coating. Dan also worked at Berg Construction doing landscaping. When he wasn’t working, Dan enjoyed spending time with his family. In recent years, they would go to Birch Lake to fish and be outdoors.
Over the years, Dan attended various rehabilitation programs, but he could not shake the weight of addiction. Despite the love and support Dan received, he was taken too soon. For those who read this and are in the grasp of addiction, Dan’s family encourages you to learn from his death.
Dan will be missed greatly by his mother, Robin (Barry Simmons) Hanson; sister, Cara (Bryant Craig) Hanson; nephew, Carson Craig; other loving relatives and friends.
Dan will be greeted in Heaven by his father, Paul Hanson; grandparents, Ron and Marlene Hanson, Bob and Donna Arnold; aunt, Cathy Deyo; cousin, Krista Monyhan.
The Hanson is proudly cared for by the staff of Ballard-Sunder Funeral Home & Cremation.

Robin & Cara – Mary, Collin & I were so sad to hear the news of Dan’s passing. It is so difficult to understand the struggles and demons some are challenged to bare. We wake up everyday not being asked to endure what Dan has gone through over the years.

Condolence from Sue Lewis, Everett, Washington on August 10th, 2017 10:48 am

You don’t know me but I grew up with Teresa (your sister in law). I was drawn to comment because of the manner in which you lost your son. Heroin is evil and it steals so much from the addict and those that love that addict. I too have lost many to the evil grips of heroin…..while most are people I am familiar with, I also lost my grand daughter (June 27, 2016) and nearly lost my nephew one week after my grand daughter. I know and understand exactly how you are feeling….it will get easier but never better. While I have my two great grand daughters to raise, I get to be with my grand daughter everyday through them, the sadness that encompasses me is still very real. Please know that even though you don’t know me, I will keep you and your family in my prayers and please know how very sorry I am for the huge loss that you are suffering.

My deepest condolences to you and your family and friends… I did not know Dan, but many of my friends did. I cannot imagine what you are going through. I want to thank you for your message to others in your time of sorrow as my own daughter has been struggling with heroin addiction for many years. I hope and pray every day to never feel the pain you feel. He is a beautiful soul, I can see… this drug is horrible. I pray for comfort for you all knowing he is no longer in the pain of addiction. God bless.
