Fred's life story
Fred W. Nelson
On Wednesday, April 17, 1929 in Minneapolis, MN, Frederick William was born to parents Frank and Nada (Wilke) Nelson. He was the middle child of five. Fred’s childhood years were spent in Minneapolis and he later graduated from Columbia Heights High School. Excelling in athletics, he loved to play football and baseball
At the age of 18, Fred spent the next forty years at General Motors, as a plant supervisor in Edina. He married Lynette Hoag on May 20, 1967 at Shepherd of the Lake Lutheran Church in Prior Lake, MN. They were blessed with three children, Mike, Sandi and Lynnda.
A man full of life, Fred and Lynn loved to tear up the dance floor on the weekends at the Prior Lake V.F.W. A talented Irish tenor singer, his signature song was O’Danny Boy. An avid golfer and bowler, Fred and Lynn treasured winters at their home in Naples, Florida. But his biggest pride and joy was spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren
For the past 26 years, Fred has lived with Parkinson’s. This disease may have affected his body, but not his spirit. Fred was a fun loving husband, dad and grandpa, with a great sense of humor. As the disease progressed, he loved to listen to the conversations and would still join in with great one liner’s. In September of 2010, Fred moved to Mala Strana Health Care Center in New Prague, MN.
The late afternoon of Tuesday, February 19, 2013, Fred was 83 years young when he passed away at Mayo Clinic Health Systems in New Prague, MN.
Deeply missed and remember always by those who loved Fred, wife of 45 years, Lynn of Prior Lake; children, Mike (Sundae) Nelson of Blaine, Sandi (Dick) Ryan of Prior Lake; Lynnda (Ted Sammis) Nelson of Prior Lake; 6 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; sister, Pat Berens; other loving relatives and devoted friends.
