Evangeline “Vangie” Wolf

Vangie was born on February 14, 1930 in Victoria, MN, to Raymond and Caroline (Welter) Williams on the family farm. She attended grade school in Victoria. She loved school, especially reading, spelling and math. She achieved several perfect attendance records. Her fondness for reading books of all genres continued up until her illness this past year.

Being the oldest of eight children meant Vangie had to work hard, helping to take care of her younger siblings, cooking, cleaning and performing chores around the farm. When she did have spare time, she enjoyed fishing with her dad. She learned how to crochet from her grandma and embroider from her mom.   She graduated in 1948 from St. Benedict Catholic High School in St. Joseph, MN, Although her original vocation included plans to become a nun, she decided to leave to pursue another path.

Vangie was a nanny for a short time, and also worked at the local bakery in Chaska. Soon her life changed forever.  One August evening at the Riverside Ballroom in 1952, she met the man who swept her off her feet, Cyril Wolf.  He spotted her across the room and knew she was the one.  Cy was serving in the U.S. Navy at the time, so this meant a long distance courtship. They wrote each other frequently, and would see each other whenever he was on leave over the next two years. After serving his country proudly, Cy proposed to Vangie in July of 1953.

They married each other on an unusually warm Tuesday morning of November 9, 1954 at St. Victoria Catholic Church. Vangie even made all the pies, cakes and aprons for her wedding.  Vangie and Cy settled in Jordan and raised 9 children, who became the main focus in her life. Later on, Vangie  worked part time at Radermacher’s Grocery Store in the deli department and also spent time watching her grandchildren and some of the neighbor's children. She also loved to volunteer, especially with the Christian Mothers Society and St. John's Parish.

Vangie loved to fish, cook, garden, play cards, and travel throughout the country with friends and family. She also enjoyed bowling, acquiring several "high game" and "high series" titles.

She was a much loved and admired wife, mother and grandmother. Her main devotion was to her family, especially when it came to her adoring grandchildren, who appreciated all the time she spent with them. They loved her sense of humor, and hearing about her life as a child.

Late Saturday evening, June 5, 2010, while in the loving care of her family, and while holding her husband's hands, Vangie entered God’s arms.
