Janice Faith O’Brien

Janice was a loving, caring and protective wife, mother and sister, who nurtured and cared deeply for her family and anyone in need.

Born on December 21, 1941 in Duluth, MN, Janice was the daughter of Clinton and Edith (Carlson) Ritchie. Growing up in Duluth, Janice attended school and met Francis “Bob” O’Brien there. They exchanged wedding vows on December 22, 1962 at Holy Rosary Church in Duluth, MN.

Since Bob was serving and stationed in the Navy in California, they made their first home there and welcomed their daughter, Deborah. After Bob was discharged from the service, they moved to Minneapolis and welcomed their son, David. In 1974 Janice and Bob built a home in Burnsville, where they have lived and raised their family ever since.

Being a wife and mother most of her life, she decided to go to college.  Janice would attend Normandale Community College and Augsburg Colleges, where she obtained a degree in Communications. She worked for over 7 years at the Wilder Foundation, working with families in crisis situations in their home. A job she took very serious, for she wanted the best for everyone. Janice was also a substitute teacher for the Burnsville School District 191 for a few years.

Janice was very active as a member of Ladies Bible Studies groups at Peace of Peace Church and Faith Covenant. She was also a member of the Toast Master in Burnsville. Janice enjoyed reading and traveling to Hawaii, Florida and especially the driving trips to the West Coast to visit her brother and his family.

Her pride and joy in life was their children and grandchildren.  Janice Faith O’Brien, of Burnsville, was 68 years young when she passed away on Monday, June 21, 2010 at the Belle Plaine Lutheran Home in Belle Plaine, MN.

She is loved and will be deeply missed by husband, Francis; children, Deborah (Bruce) Peterson of Jordan, David (Julie) of Shakopee; grandchildren, Jessica and Dallas O’Brien, Regan, Morgan, Lauren and Ryan Peterson; brother, David (Betsy) Ritchie of Seattle, WA; nephews, Darren and Brian Ritchie; other relatives and friends.
