Joan Marie Ingvalson Born on November 12, 1946 in Owatonna, MN, Joan was the daughter of Ernest Harold and Mary Lucille (Walsh) Christianson. She grew up in a small town of Blooming Prairie with her sister Ann and brother, David. They would skate at the local ice rink and their mother being a talented seamstress, would make costumes for the local town “kiddie” parades.
Joan attended Blooming Prairie High School, where she was a Homecoming Queen attendant. She also participated in girls’ choir and year book committee.
As a teenager, Joan’s life changed forever, when she met a young man for the first time, at the Blooming Prairie Town Carnival. With his parents at his side, James Ingvalson saw Joan across the crowd and knew she was the woman of his dreams. They soon became high school sweethearts and the rest is history. Joan and James exchanged wedding vows on July 3, 1965 at St. Columbanus Catholic Church in Blooming Prairie, MN.
In 1973, after living in many different places here in Minnesota and Illinois, they planted their roots in Prior Lake, MN. After looking at many homes, Joan finally found a lakeside home; she could fix up and call “home”. She still is very proud of her home to this day.
Since Jim traveled alot for his job. Joan ran an amazing household. She could do everything from the upkeep of the yard to fixing broken items and maintaining the day-to-day household tasks. As a loving mother, Joan was always there for her girls, Jill and Traci. She would run them to their sporting and school events, as well as nurturing and showing them the love they needed to succeed in life.
Joan and James love to travel. Her favorite place to vacation was Hawaii where she loved watching the whales and enjoyed the beautiful scenery of all the islands. But most of all, Joan loved the sand and the sun. As a couple, they enjoyed their trips to Germany and Europe. One of the most memorable family vacations was to the British Isles. All their trips were filled with great memories and special times.
In recent years, Joan and her family and friends perfected the fine art of floating. They could spend hours on the water, talking and enjoying each other’s company. She also was crowned the Grand Duchess of the Walsh family, since she was the oldest living cousin. A position she was very proud of holding and took seriously. But there was one special spot in her heart and this was for her grandson, Carter. They had a very special relationship. Joan taught him the softer side of life, while he showed her the adventurous side. She loved to watch Carter play hockey and recently Lacrosse.
Joan was 63 years young when she unexpectedly entered God’s arms on Tuesday, June 8, 2010 at her home.
