John Vohnoutka

Born on February 27, 1923 in Heidelberg, MN, John was the son of John F. and Emma (Janovsky) Vohnoutka. He grew up and worked on the family farm located in St. Patrick, MN, with his two brothers, Roman and
Daniel.

On November 9, 1944, John at the age of 21 entered and proudly served
in the United States Army during World War II. He first served in the
Army as a truck driver. On November 23, 1944, John was discharged to
enlist into the regular Army to be a cook until October 23, 1947.

While serving in Germany, he met, Michalina “Mickey” Wesolowska, of Poland, at the U.S.O. Their love grew and on December 21, 1946 John and Mickey were married in Germany.

Moving back to the states, John and Mickey raised three sons, Jerry,
Ed and Bill. Starting his own business as a home building contractor,
John bought land from the Pieper family and built 35 homes in the P &
V Addition, just south of Shakopee. At that time, he built a complete
home for $14,000. Later on in his career, he remodeled homes as well.

His love for building continued, even after retiring. He was a busy
man building lawn furniture, birdhouses, grandfather clocks and much
more. When he was not building, he enjoyed spending time at his lake
home in Alexanderia on Lake Miltona.

He was a member of the Church of St. Mark for over 50 years. John also
belonged to the V.F.W. and the American Legion of Shakopee.

John was an honest, hardworking and talented husband, father and
grandfather. He was 87 years old when he entered God’s loving arms
early Monday morning, July 19, 2010 at Friendship Manor Nursing Home in Shakopee, MN.

He is loved and will be deeply missed by wife, Michalina “Mickey”;
