Rachel Francis Simon
Born on March 31, 1992 in Minneapolis, MN, Rachel was the daughter of Myron “Mike” and Mary (Hentges) Simon. Growing up in Bloomington, Rachel had many fond times with her brother, Bob, sister, Tracy and the neighborhood friends- “the gang.” They would create dance routines, script plays, ride bikes, play Barbie’s and house.
Rachel loved nature, all types of animals, playing at the family farms and her uncle’s cabin. She enjoyed listening to all types of music, especially on her IPOD. Having a creative side, Rachel loved photography, computer games and writing poetry. She enjoyed playing board games, especially when she was winning. Rachel had a love for walking and swimming at the beach with family and friends. She loved to dance at the family weddings, read real life stories and just being with family and friends.
She enjoyed ice fishing and jogging at Woodlake Nature Center and the Minnesota River bottoms with her dad. Rachel and her mom loved to watch movies together, especially mystery and scary movies. She enjoyed spending time working out and talking with her brother, who she looked up to as a mentor. Tracy and Rachel treasured playing volleyball and the many shopping trips with their mom.
Having a soft spot for the elderly and small children, Rachel had a real knack with communicating with people. Working at nursing homes and assisted living facilities, she took great satisfaction in the many activities and the one on one time she had with each person.
Graduating from Bloomington High School in 2010, Rachel was planning on pursuing a degree in the mental health field at Normandale Community College this fall. Her hope and dream was to someday travel to Australia.
Rachel was 18 years young when she unexpectedly passed away at her home in Bloomington on Thursday, July 29, 2010. She is loved and will be deeply missed by parents, Myron, “Mike” and Mary (Hentges) Simon of Bloomington; brother, Bob Simon of Bloomington; sister, Tracy Simon of Bloomington; special friend, Cheryl Benson; many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Rachel is preceded in death by her grandparents, Wilfred and Esther Hentges and Joseph Frances Simon; uncles Robert Hentges and Donald Simon.
