William “Bill” A. Pelkey
Born on March 24, 1965 in Minneapolis, MN, William Allen Pelkey was the oldest son of Durward and Gladys (Ahlstrom) Pelkey. Growing up with his sister and brother in Maple Plain, they made many fond memories, especially when it came to animals. They always had pets; from dogs, to cats and even squirrels. As a family, they loved to go camping at the Platte River in Rice, MN.
Bill attended Delano High School where he was very active as a student. He enjoyed playing football, basketball, baseball and track. Having a love for music, Bill sang in the school choir, and graduated in 1983.
After high school, Bill learned and achieved the many different facets of construction. He built homes, pole barns, and even an airplane hangar in Florida for Mark Martin, a NASCAR driver.
His love for animals, music, racing and sports continued throughout his life. His family life always contained dogs and cats. Bill loved to sing Karaoke and play his guitar and even taught others to play. His love for car racing ran deep. He was a spectator at every race track in Minnesota and surrounding states. Bill even raced hobby stock at Raceway Park one year. Meeting many of the NASCAR drivers throughout his adventures, Bill’s favorite driver was Dale Earnhardt SR - #3. He enjoyed playing and mastering many video games and watching all kinds of sports.
On August 28, 2006, Bill exchanged wedding vows with Therese “”Terri” Fouquette at the Church of the Nazarene in White Bear Lake. Together, they enjoyed singing, sitting under the stars and listening to the local scanner. Bill loved to attend Twins games, the children’s school and sporting events. He worked for Mystic Lake Casino for about 4 years.
Residing in Prior Lake, Bill was 45 years young when he passed suddenly on Sunday, July 4, 2010.
He is loved and will be deeply missed by wife, Therese “Terri”; children, Elizabeth, Catherine and James Cates; parents, Durward and Gladys Pelkey of Delano; sister, Pamela (Joel) Schroeder of St. Louis Park; brother, Thomas (Cheryl) Pelkey of Delano; and many other family and friends.
The Celebration of Life Service will be on Friday, July 9, 2010 at 5:00 PM, with visitation two hours prior to the service, all at Ballard-Sunder Funeral Home, 4565 Pleasant Street SE, Prior Lake, MN. Pastor Per Nilsen will officiate. Memorials are preferred in Bill’s memory.
